David Moyes could not hide his anger after Fabian Balbuena received a red card after a bogus VAR decision. The Englishman then went to the courts and had the decision over turned on 27th April 2021.
David Moyes felt that his teams chances of qualifying for the UCL may have watered down via Balbuena’s red card. Balbuena’s exit did not give West Ham much confidence in their defense. Eventually they succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and remain contender for next seasons Europa League.
Following the game, Moyes displayed his anger out on the Virtual Assistant Referee (VAR) that led his team to their downfall. Thus, David decided to appeal the decision that cost his team the game.
In an interview on 27th April 2021, Moyes said, “The decision of the VAR to punish Balbuena is quite absurd. As a footballer, in order to clear the ball, Fabian has to raise his leg.”

“The fact that Chilwell got caught by his studs was quite unfortunate” said Moyes.
The decision to overturn the red card would come as good news for the Hammers. But, Moyes still believes that without the intervention of the VAR his team could have drawn the game. By doing so they could have been in the race for the final UCL qualification spot.

Moyes’s reaction would not surprise the Hammer fans as they understand the desire of the Englishman to give West Ham a Champions League experience.
Thus far West Ham have strived under Moyes with Jesse Lingard, Micheal Antonio, Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek doing their part for the West Londoners.
Therefore, David Moyes will ask his team to show him more of a winning personality in the remaining five EPL games.
