Barcelona seems “keen” to sign passionate Georginio Wijnaldum in early future confident David Hughes

Barcelona seems "keen" to sign passionate Georginio Wijnaldum in early future confident David Hughes

Georginio Wijnaldum wants away from Anfield in the coming tranfer window. His desire to leave is the position that Liverpool is currently in the Premier League points table. In light of talks about Jurgen Klopp leaving the club, Georginio Wijnaldum is keen on moving on from the KOP with Barcelona waiting to sign him.

The Netherlands international became one of Klopp’s first-ever signing in his campaign to rebuild Liverpool.

During the rebuild, Klopp and Gini became a lot closer to each other and the bestowed utmost respect to one another. Under Klopp, Wijnaldum became a midfield enforcer, despite his preference for playing as an attacking midfielder.

Should Gini leave Anfield, the club, he would most likely go to would be Barcelona. He would not be the first Dutchman to move to Spain. In the past, Ronald Koeman (current Barca coach), Johan Cruyff, and Patrick Kluivert, etc., have made similar moves.

Australian talk show host David Hughes touched upon the possibility of Georginio Wijnaldum playing for Barcelona in the near future. On March 27th, 2021, he said, “Barcelona are keen to sign Gini. Gini’s view on securing a huge contract would tempt him to a move to Barcelona in the following window.”

Though, whether Liverpool would let him leave without being paid a huge sum for him is another matter altogether,” said Hughes.

The comments made by Hughes have placed the future of the Netherlands vice-captain in balance. Though, if Gini leaves for Barcelona, he will not take much time to adapt to the Blaugrana’s playing style under Koeman.

Can Gini survive at Barcelona?

As mentioned above, he is not the first Dutch player to desire a move to the five-time Champions League winners. A few years ago, Barcelona would not have been the right spot for the thirty-year-old.

However, under Koeman, the Catalans are playing football similar to the Netherlands national team’s technique. When Koeman sold Suarez, it was due to his desire to rebuild his team based around the Dutch model.

The original Dutch model votes for the use of younger players in the squad. Unfortunately, Georginio Wijnaldum does not have the advantage of age, but his vast experience would help Barca rebuild.

Considering his start at Liverpool, helping Klopp rebuild the eventual CL and EPL champions, Wijnaldum would be able to advise Ronald best. There is no doubt Georginio Wijnaldum will be offered the position of skipper in the Barcelona line-up envisioned by Koeman for future endeavors.

Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp would never want to be away from the Dutchman and will fight to keep him at Anfield.

The thirty-year-old Dutchman is a true leader under Klopp, and neither would cherish a move away from Liverpool. Hence, Jurgen has appealed to the Liverpool board of directors to keep Gini with the Merseyside reds.

Liverpool also would not want to lose two individuals who have contributed their time and effort to the club’s advancement. Therefore, it is likely that they will think to keep the Dutch veteran.

However, should things not change for the Anfield side, Gini will depart, and he will not be held accountable because of his desire to win trophies over monetary benefits.
