Ollie Watkins had a memorable day in the England jersey on March 25th, 2021. He scored the last goal to secure a five-nil victory against San Marino in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. But it was an important day for him as he scored his maiden goal for Lions at Wembley.

Ollie Watkins has played in England for the past seven years. However, he had only made his identity known at the biggest in 2020 when he joined Aston Villa. Unfortunately, his first goal for the Villians was not as memorable as his goal at the Wembley Stadium.

In an interview, he mentioned, “I have worked hard to deserve a spot on the England squad. But, what makes me feel a lot of joy is the fact that I scored my first goal at the Wembley Stadium.”

The performance of the twenty-five-year-old English international would grant him further opportunities with the Three Lions. Ollie would definitely replace Harry Kane in the England lineup in the future. His record of ten goals and three assists in twenty-eight appearances for Villa is proof of his proficiency.

The Newton Abbott native has age on his side, as Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy was given his debut with the Three Lions at twenty-nine. England boss Gareth Southgate has assessed the English striker and has called him a “fairy tale.”

Watkins is a unique player in the eyes of Gareth and consequently has lauded the young striker for his magical abilities on the ball. In an interview, Southgate said, “We were winning comfortably. Then I decided to play him for the last thirty minutes of the game.”

For him to score a goal is magical for sure because of his lack of minutes on the pitchsaid Gareth.

The comments made by the England boss hint at more minutes for Ollie Watkins in the White and Blue jerseys of the Three Lions. Therefore, he will be given a chance to impress further.

The ball is in his court, and it is up to him to want to become an essential player for England in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
