Also, given Halep’s perfect defense, she got to bring some fiery performance to book her spot in the semis of Australian open 2021.
Despite going down 0-2 in the early stages of the second set, Williams put on an impressive show to make a superb comeback. Now, this is something that will put his potential rivals Osaka and world No.1 Ash Barty on notice.
“That is some vicious hitting from Serena,” Nine commentator Jim Courier quoted saying during the early phase of the match.
I am excited for my next challenge against the ‘Cool Cat’: Serena Williams
In the post-match presentation, Serena talked about making the most out of the opportunities her way. She said, “I know I made certain unforced errors during the match. Still, it was all about staying and I think I stayed”.
When asked about that ‘vicious hitting’ during the first set, Serena replied: “The ball was simply looking like a doughnut to me, so yeah, I just made it that way. She is world no. 2 and you got to bring out your best against a player of such stature.”
Jim Courier, the commentator for the local sports channel, further asked him about his preparations to toughen her defense. In response, Serena simply said:” my training team and I do conduct several drills to strengthen the defense. Yet, I always put my aggressive play as my biggest strength.”
Serena also looks set and prepared for her next challenge against the ‘cool cat’ Naomi Osaka. She talked about drawing some big inspiration from Osaka both on and off the court. ‘I think she is a fantastic person and player at the same time. I draw some big inspiration from her activism off the court( Osaka’s support for the Black lives Matter campaign during last year’s US open). That said, I am sure she must have watched me playing today. So, I am looking forward to that challenge “, she said.
Serena was simply brutal with her serves and returns today. So, given the form and momentum, she is carrying right now, she may have sent some jitters to her rival’s fold for sure.
