Roy Jones Jr. Proves Billy Joe Saunders Not a “Jerk” For Claiming Big Ring Against Canelo Alvarez

Billy Joe  Saunders, 31, is going to face Canelo Alvarez having fought just twice in the last three years. But Roy Jones Jr believes Saunders has a ‘good chance’ of beating Canelo, because of his skills inside the ring.

Billy and his father threatened to pull off from the fight because of a dispute regarding the ring size. Many claimed Billy Joe Saunders to be a jerk when he asked for bigger ring size. But Jones doesn’t think this is the case.

He said, “Billy Joe needs as much operating room as possible. I hear Billy Joe is a jerk, but I don’t know him like that. But that’s a legitimate point; that’s not being a jerk. When you’re a boxer, you need room in order to operate because the more room you got, the harder it is for your opponent to catch you.”

Canelo, 30, is considered one of the best boxers in history and the current pound-for-pound king. The Mexican currently holds the WBA, WBC, and the Ring super-middleweight titles.

However, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has backed BJS to beat Canelo in their highly anticipated fight. Jones Jr also seems to back up those claims. In an interview, Jones Jr. talked about the fight.

He said, “You better go for the kill, that’s the only way you can fight Billy Joe. That’s the perfect fight plan. If I was training Canelo, I’d say, ‘We got to get this dude. We can’t give him time, we got to go get him.’ He better. I love Canelo. He’s pound-for-pound. As far as the ring size goes, Billy Joe knows for him to have a chance, he has to get away from Canelo. It’s commons sense.”

With the fight just moments away, it remains to be seen who’s going to be the undisputed champ.
