“Quarantine is temporary” Novak Djokovic on the COVID-19 lockdown

The Australian Open 2021 is already in the Quarter Final stage. The defending champion Novak Djokovic moved to the Semi-Final today. He defeated Alexander Zverev. However, the Serb told about the effect quarantine has over the players’ physique.

What happened in Today’s match between Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev?

The Current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic faced Alexander Zverev for the quarter-finals. The match took place in Rod Laver Arena on 16 February 2021.

Novak Djokovic holds a record of eight Australian Open titles. It seems like he is aiming for his ninth title this season. Therefore, the fanatics are speculating he will continue his reign. He won the quarter-final with a score of 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, and 7-6.

However, the match was not an easy one for the Serb. His opponent was the current World No. 7. Zverev has won 13 ATP singles and two doubles titles. Therefore, he is not the opponent you can easily win against. Djokovic served 23 aces in the match. Whereas, Zverev also served 21 aces in the match. However, Djokovic still won the match.

Novak Djokovic moved to the Semi-Final in the Australian Open 2021. Therefore, he will face the Russian Aslan Karatsev.

What happened after the match?

In the post-match interview, Djokovic mentioned he was not at 100 percent. Therefore, his performance was so sluggish at the start. He is not completely recovered from the injury. Which he got against Taylor Fritz in the third round of the tournament.

Djokovic is suffering from some injury prior to the tournament. Therefore, it is painful for him to play and the quarantine rules are making it harder for him. He mentioned that a lot of players got affected by this quarantine. Therefore, he mentioned skipping if it was a regular tournament. The Serb also said it took 8 to 10 games to get in the form.

He will discuss this issue with the authorities. He liked the idea of the NBA-style bubble. So, all the matches will take place at the same venue.

Djokovic said,” We are hoping that it’s temporary. But, talking to a lot of players, the majority of the players just don’t want to go ahead with the season if we are going to have to quarantine most of the tournaments.

“So this is something that should be discussed, like as of now. I spoke to some of the council members, and they are saying they have extensive discussions about that with ATP management.

“For the lower-ranked players, I have heard a lot of complaints. I’m not pointing fingers at anybody. It’s just I’m speaking what is going on, speaking the truth, am speaking the reality, and we have to talk about it.

“I heard some players talk about that, and I don’t mind discussing that kind of idea. Select one place and we play all the tournaments on that surface and that place.”

What we will see from Djokovic in the later stages of the Australian Open 2021?

As we know, Djokovic will face the Russian Aslan Karatsev in the next round. The Serb will meet World No. 114 for the first time. However, Djokovic acknowledged the talent of Karatsev. He said he is really powerful and his backhand looks powerful. Therefore, Djokovic is really excited to face the Russian.

However, we can expect the No. 1 to move to the final beating Karatsev. He may also win his ninth title. But the injury could pose a threat to his performance. Therefore, we should hope the injury does not get any worse.
