Paulo Futre Knows FC Porto “have to sweat blood” To Show Chelsea What They Deserve More Than A Draw

Paulo Futre

FC Porto legend, Paulo Futre is furious with the behavior of some Chelsea fans since last few days. The Blues are the scheduled to face the Portuguese side in the Champions League quarterfinal but apparently Porto isn’t getting the kind of respect they deserve. Futre was ‘disgusted’ with the entire matter and slammed Chelsea fans for their ‘celebrations’.

Chelsea fans were very happy when the team was drawn against Porto. Even after knocking Juventus out from round of 16, Porto wasn’t seen as a potential contender. The Portuguese accused the English giants of celebrating the fact and considering that they will easily progress into the semifinals as Porto will be a weak rival to them.

Speaking to CMTV, the 55-year-old said, “Chelsea players celebrated when they heard that they had drawn Porto. How did I know? It’s in the English press and I called later to confirm”. He added, “When I spoke to the source I was disgusted and I would give anything to play against Chelsea”.

There’s no doubt that Futre was very upset with the things that happened. He now seeks for revenge and that only happen if Porto manages to knock Chelsea out. The road is very tough, but the Portuguese feel they can qualify if the players give everything out on the pitch.

The club icon said, “FC Porto players now have to give their all on the pitch, because Chelsea think they are already in the semi-finals. They celebrated in the morning when they saw they got FC Porto. Porto can get through, but they have to sweat blood.”

Can Porto knock Chelsea out of the Champions League?

In Football, it is ‘never say never’. Porto already did something unthinkable by knocking the Champions of Italy out of the competition. Thus, it won’t be surprising to see them pull off something like that once again.

However, beating Thomas Tuchel’s side will be very difficult for the Champions of Portugal. The German is yet to lose a game in Chelsea colors and thus have an unbeaten run of 14 games. Chelsea keeper Eduardo Mendy is also in terrific form. Out of his 24 Premier League games, the Frenchman has kept a clean sheet in 14 matches.

To add to that, Chelsea’s history against Porto also favors the Blues. In the last eight encounters between them, Chelsea managed to win 5 times while Porto did a couple of times. Thus, in no normal circumstances, it will be easy for Chelsea. However, as Futre mentioned, if the players give their blood and sweat, then nothing is a dream.
