Louis Riddick explains what “troubles the defensive coordinators” in drafting Justin Fields

Justin Fields

The NFL offseason is in full swing ever since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl at their home ground. Players have been relishing their time away from the field and tending to their injuries after a long season. However, the collegiate students await their selection into the NFL franchises ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. Players like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields have put in brilliant performances for their alma-mater and will be expecting to be picked in the draft.

With the drafts fast approaching, analysts and critics have started having discussions and debates about potential signings by teams. In one such debate, TV analyst Louis Riddick described what young quarterback Justin Fields brings to the table.

Louis Riddick makes the case for Justin Fields

In the discussion with ESPN, Louis Riddick said, “I’m going to go with Justin Fields. I know this is one that is going to cause a lot of discussions. From a defensive player perspective, I could see what defensive coordinators saw when it comes to fields. You have to sell out and make it hard for him to not be able to go where he is looking initially. If you can get him to hold and second guess himself, that’s where bad decisions come to play with him.”

He continued, “You saw it time and time again with Northwestern. So for me, if I’m drafting him, I want to know why those things happen. I want to know if it was a function of the offense not allowing them to be more creative on the football field or did he not have the answers. Physically, he is more gifted than every single other quarterback in this draft. However, until I have those answers, I’d be a little bit weary at this time. And that is what makes it so cool.”

New NFL season in the fall

The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held on 29th April and will continue till 1st May. Jacksonville Jaguars will have the first pick of the draft.
