Jalen Hurts Changed His Eagles Jersey to No. 1 Due to “Psychological Warfare” Remarks Jay Williams

Jalen Hurts will reportedly be the only quarterback in Jeffrey Lurie's side.

The Philadelphia Eagles will start the 2021 season with a new No. 1 quarterback as Jalen Hurts decided to change his jersey number. On Friday, the Eagles posted an announcement on Twitter about changing the jersey number.

Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in 2020 and grabbed Jersey No. 2 as Cameron Johnston occupied the No. 1 during that time. Now that Johnston left the Eagles for Houston Texans Hurts want to wear the No. 1 from next season.

Former NFL player Jay Williams gave his thoughts about Hurts’ decision on changing the jersey. Williams believes Hurts changed his number due to psychological reasons.

“Psychological warfare is going on in the mind of Jalen Hurts so you know what I’ve never been QB number two I’m QB number one I’m going back to one Philly,” Williams explained about Hurts’ psychology.

However, this is not the first time the 22-year-old quarterback changed his jersey number. Previously he has changed the number in his college football career.

Jersey changing history of Jalen Hurts

No matter what team he plays for, he always plays in the Jersey No.1. Previously when he transferred from the University of Alabama to Oklahoma before starting the 2019 season, he abandoned his No.2 jersey for No.1. And he also wore the No 1 at Oklahoma.

Hurts believes he can play well with the No 1 jersey. However, he did not play badly in the No 2 jersey at Eagles.

In his rookie season with the Eagles, he played 15 games with four starts while wearing a No 2 jersey. Throughout the season, he completed 52 percent of his passes for 1,061 yards. His exciting rookie season also consisted of four interceptions and three touchdowns.

With that tremendous performance, he became the only quarterback since 1950 to throw over 800 yards and rush for over 200 yards in the first three starts.

With a No 1 jersey, Hurts will certainly aim for more score. Since Johnston left the team, Hurts will surely start more games and continue his phenomenal run.
