“He’s a matchup piece” Todd McShay explains versatile functions of Kyle Pitts

The NFL draft for the upcoming season is around the corner. Scouts and managers of franchises are on the prowl, looking for new talents for their team.

College football coaches are backing up their star players on the media. Some players like Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones are already household names for the NFL fanatics.

Florida Gators’ tight-end Kyle Pitts is another player who has quickly become one to watch this season.

American Football TV analyst Todd McShay, put forward his mock draft standings for the college hopefuls on Thursday night. His list mostly included quarterbacks and offensive players who were up for grabs this season.

However, he had Patrick Surtain II listed at tenth in his list as the only defensive player. He had a few possible trades mentioned, including Mac Jones and Justin Fields.

McShay waxes lyrical about Kyle Pitts

Todd McShay was asked about the exact position of Kyle Pitts on Sportscenter. He said, “He’s a matchup piece. That’s what I love about him. You can play him out wide, you can play him in the slot. The thing that I’ve really grown to appreciate about him is that he’s not a great blocker, however, he can do it functionally in line. He gives good effort, he can run down the field. He’ll fight and finish as a sustainer when trying to block.”

Todd McShay called Kyle Pitts a "matchup piece"

Kyle Pitts put in stellar performances for the Florida Gators throughout the season.

He continued, “I compare him a little bit to Darren Waller from the Raiders. He had 197 catches in the last two years. They have similar frames. I think Pitts is going to wind up weighing around 250-255 pounds. Again, he can play on the inside, he can play on the outside. You can play him in the screen game and he can really create after the catch.”

McShay feels that the league is leaning towards offense

“I think it’s the NFL at the moment right now,” said McShay. “You need a quarterback, and there’s a reason that most of these teams are drafting so early. They need a quarterback or a difference-maker on the offensive side.”

The NFL season commences on 9th September 2021. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to repeat their feats of the last season. Super Bowl LVI will take place at SoFi Stadium in California, home to the Los Angeles Rams.
