The 2021 NFL drafts are around the corner. With that in mind, team managements are looking forward to signing young college students who have done well for their alma-mater this season. Players like Kyle Pitts and Trevor Lawrence have already risen to fame with their exciting performances.
The New England Patriots this season have spent millions in the free agency for a major upheaval in their squad. Head coach Bill Belichick has repeatedly stated that he does not want to go through a season like 2020 again. This influx of fresh talent in the squad means that the spot for the quarterback is also up for grabs.
However, NFL insider Diana Russini reports that owner Robert Kraft has no intentions of signing a new quarterback yet. In a chat with ESPN, Russini explains the reasoning behind Kraft’s reluctance to sign any more players.
Diana Russini explains the draft strategy of the New England Patriots
In her discussion about possible trades and signings, Russini talked about Robert Kraft publicly undermining Belichick. She said:
“What I hear is, going seventh and ninth sticks and everybody has a very short-term memory. As much as Kraft came out of the gate criticizing Bill Belichick, the league still revolves around the what-have-you-done-for-me basis.”
She continued, “No one cares what you did. Everybody cares about what are you gonna do for them in the future. He spent over 110 million dollars of Robert Kraft’s money to build up this roster for the Patriots. This is something that we have never seen them do over the past years.”
The NFL draft is scheduled to be held in Cleveland on 29th April. It will continue till 1st May. The Jacksonville Jaguars will have the opportunity of taking the first pick. The new NFL season commences from 9th September, in the fall. Super Bowl LVI will be staged in the newly constructed SoFi stadium in Inglewood, California.
