The current crop of young players like Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic is set to take over the NBA once the old guard steps back. Amidst those ranks, Ja Morant has also occupied his rightful place at the top at such a young age which is truly remarkable.
In his latest Instagram post, Morant shared the motto that helped him to achieve everything he has. With a photo of him playing the game he loves, he attached the caption, “since a youngin I been getting it on my own. You gotta get it dats what I was told.
Ever since his debut, Morant has revolutionized the game at the point guard position. He has introduced a new facet – dunking. Generally, point guards are players who are exceptionally good at passing but lack jumping ability. However, Morant has shown everyone that he can jump and dunk like the best in the game.
Ja Morant and the Grizzlies pushing forward for the playoffs
The Memphis Grizzlies is a team that quietly slips under the radar when it comes to hype. However, players like Dillon Brooks and Morant have lit up the NBA with their stupendous performances in each game.
This was on display once again as they went on to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Although Dillon Brooks was the star of the show with a season-high 25 points, Ja Morant too finished with 11 points and seven assists to his name.
Speaking about the game in the post-game press conference, the 21-year-old said, “I just feel like we picked up our defensive effort,” he said. “We were able to get stops and play in transition, which we like to do — get out and run. And it opened up a lot for us on the offensive end, got our offense going.”
The Memphis Grizzlies are ninth in the Western Conference standings. At the moment, they are one rung below the playoff spots. However, with young players like Brooks and Ja Morant, they will be very optimistic about their chances ahead of the business end of the season.
