The name of Luka Doncic has been on everyone’s lips for quite a while now. The two-time all-star has been putting on stellar displays in every game. He was selected ahead of Damian Lillard as a starter for the All-star game on Sunday. Despite being 10 years younger, Doncic is compared to Stephen Curry when it comes to superstar point guards. His exceptional ability to read the game and make an educated play is a testament to the raw talent that he possesses.
The young Slovenian has been on fire this season. He is averaging 28.6 points and 9 assists per game. Moreover, he is shooting 35.7% from behind the arc this season which is considerably higher than his career stats of 32.8%. Doncic is at the 7th spot in the KIA MVP Ladder, ahead of stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden. Based on these numbers, notable TV presenter Stephen A Smith compared him to Celtics legend Larry Bird.
Stephen A praises Luka Doncic
The 22-year-old Doncic was hailed by Stephen A Smith as a white superstar in the NBA.
In his show, “Stephen A’s world”, he said, “There’s one player who keeps coming to my mind when I see Luka Doncic playing basketball. It ain’t James Harden, it’s a player from a whole another generation, the one and only Larry Bird.”

He continued, “All due respect to Dirk Nowitski and Manu Ginobli, but Luka Doncic is the baddest white dude since Larry Bird. Somebody had to say it, so I’m gonna say it. People said that he was propped up just because he was white, Bird had to light some teams up before his greatness was even acknowledged. However, Luka already has that respect. And the kid just turned 22 yesterday. Saturday night he outplayed James Harden to defeat the Brooklyn Nets.”
Doncic taking the Dallas Mavericks to new heights
In his monologue about Doncic, Smith also said that Luka’s got that “drive” to always improve that all the greats had in their time. This attitude has had a knock-on effect on the entire team and their performances have seen an upward spiral in recent weeks.
The Dallas Mavericks are currently ninth in the Western Conference standings. They beat the Orlando Magic 124-130 on Monday night. At the moment, the Mavs are out of contention for the playoff spots. However, they do have a two-game winning streak which can be extended against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
