Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons Labels Himself as ‘The Best Defensive Player in the League’ After Defeating the Mavericks

Ben Simmons

Over the last few seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as one of the better teams in the league. Philly’s recent success has been courtesy of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. The terrific young duo has been leading the team from the front.

In fact, this season Embiid might become the league MVP for the first time in his career. On the other hand, Simmons has continued to improve his defense and can lock in the opposing team’s best player on any given night.

However, as good as Simmons is on the defensive end of the floor, his shooting is that much worse. Despite being in the league for a few years, Simmons is yet to develop a consistent jumper. As a result, his offense is pretty one-dimensional and thus the scoring burden comes on Embiid’s shoulders.

Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid have been influential in keeping the 76ers at the top.

Philly dominated the Mavericks earlier tonight. In the game yet again Simmons was a defensive force that helps his team seal the victory. Following that performance, he made a very bold claim about his abilities. He said:

Defensively, I feel like that’s just effort. I do feel like I’m the best defensive player in the league – I can guard 1 through 5.”

While there are no doubts that Simmons is an excellent defender, but calling himself the best defender in the league, might be a little bit extreme. He might have that title in the next four or five years, but as of now, Simmons is probably a top-three defensive player in the league.
