For two seasons now, Zion Williamson has been the hottest new talent in the NBA. The 6’7″ ominous figure has struck fear into the hearts of opposition defenses and is showing no signs of relent. He showed yet another glimpse of his ability against the Philadephia 76ers on Friday night.
The 20-year-old carried his team over the line against high-flying 76ers. Moreover, he was supported by all his teammates and that resulted in a resounding victory for the New Orleans Pelicans. In the post-game press conference, he talked about how his stepfather helped in moulding his game.
He said, “Firstly, I wanna thank my coaches and my teammates for trusting me to be me. Secondly, I say this all the time, my stepfather trained me to be a point guard. So that was just normal. It was just an opportunity for me to go out and show it.”
Zion Williamson leads the Pels to a comprehensive victory
The Pelicans showed that they are a team that can perform under the toughest of circumstances. They managed to cope with the relentless pressure from the 76ers defense and find places to score.
Zion was the pick of the players as he finished with 37 points. He also racked up a whopping 15 rebounds and eight assists through the game. Apart from him, Brandon Ingram scored 17 points and had eight rebounds.
After the game, Zion said, “My teammates were giving me confidence and saying we trust you and every move you make. All that stuff plays a part.”
The New Orleans Pelicans are 11th in the Western Conference standings. At the moment, they are not in the playoff qualification spots. However, players like Zion and Ingram can spark a change of fortune for them.
