Marc Gasol Sparks Off At Reporter Claims He is “Wrong Guy” For Asking Selection Related Questions

Marc Gasol

There is no doubt about the fact that they filled the Los Angeles Lakers squad with talented players for every position. However, a problem that can arise with having too many players in one position is squad rotation. That is exactly what is going on inside the Lakers camp regarding Marc Gasol.

Marc Gasol has been prolific for the LA Lakers in the absence of stalwarts like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He has held the fort with brilliance and used his experience to good effect. However, ever since Andre Drummond joined the team, his appearances have been slowly dwindling.

With Anthony Davis back in the picture, it has pushed Marc Gasol towards the fringes. Coach Vogel is looking to form his team around Drummond and Davis as his big men. In the post-game press conference, Gasol got perturbed by a reporter asking questions about his place in the side.

The 36-year-old was asked whether his appearance will be matchup-based or he would be a regular off the bench. He said, ” You guys are asking the wrong guy. It is the coach’s decision, it is his call. He can tell you right before the game or not. As a player, you try to stay ready all the time. Do the same things that you do when you play a lot.”

He continued, ” However, sometimes it does not go that way. Please don’t ask me stuff like that. It completely depends on the coach whether I play or not.”

The LA Lakers have an abundance when it comes to centers or power forwards. They have LeBron, AD, Montrezl Harrell, Andre Drummond, Marc Gasol. Each of those players can become regular starters if they choose to move to any other franchise in the league.

Until LeBron James arrives on the court, Anthony Davis has taken up the PF role. This means that Andre Drummond and Marc Gasol can rotate at the Center position. However, once LBJ arrives, the chances of Gasol starting a game or even coming off the bench look very slim.
