“It’s a Crazy Business” Dennis Schröder Reacts to Lakers’ Trade Talk

Dennis Schröder has been influential for the Lakers this season

The news of the Los Angeles Lakers trading Dennis Schröder was doing the rounds for quite a while. However, on the trade deadline day, there was no movement whatsoever from the Lakers management. Trading a franchise point-guard is difficult, especially when there are a plethora of good players in that position.

Dennis Schröder and the Lakers have been having contract talks for a while now. Schröder is on the last year of a $15.5m contract. He has repeatedly spoken to the front office that he wants a contract extension which will see him get $20m.

The 27-year-old has said that he wants to stay with the Lakers. In fact, he reiterated it yesterday when he was asked to speak about the trade deadline proceedings. He said, “It’s a crazy business. At the end of the day, I want to play the season out”

The Lakers have been good to the German International. He has got the game time he did not receive with the Atlanta Hawks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. This increase in game time has also resulted in a drastic improvement in his performances.

About his future with the Lakers, he said, “I for sure want to be a Laker, but I want to see my options… I want to see my options, but I want to be a Laker. It needs to be fair for both sides, and I’m going to stay with that.”

He has been fairly consistent with his three-point shooting this season, scoring 31.5% of his shots from behind the arc. However, his biggest facet is the incredible passing variety. The kind of passes he picks at every game are very rare in the league.

With the kind of stellar performances he has given the LA outfit, Dennis Schröder has every right to ask for a contract extension. Now, the ball is in the Lakers’ court. Should they choose to accept his offer, they will lay their hands on one of the most sought-after point guards in the league.
