“I Just Stayed Aggressive”Kevin Porter Jr of Rocket’s Reveals his Secret to Be Fourth Youngest to Score 50 Points

It was a memorable and historic night for Kevin Porter Jr. The 20-year-old scored a career-high 50 points to go along with 11 assists Thursday night, snapping a five-game losing streak.

It was a performance etch in the record book, as he became the youngest player ever to log a 50-point double-double with assists. The rise of Porter Jr. has been one of the few bright moments in what has otherwise been an abysmal season for the Houston Rockets.

Injuries to veteran John Wall have been a blessing in disguise for Porter Jr. The young guard has averaged 16.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists this season.

When asked about his record-breaking performance, KPJ said, “After I saw the third 3 go down, I knew it was going to be a special night. It was all up to me. I just stayed aggressive, and it was a good night.”

Porter said it was his first 50-point game since he was in fourth grade.

Since the departure of James Harden and Russell Westbrook, Houston is going through a rebuilding phase. While Wood has been one of the biggest revelations for Houston, Porter Jr. has been their best acquisition this season.

The 20-year-old was unable to crack the rotation in Cleveland. And Houston has given him the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent. With Wall ruled out for the rest of the season, Porter Jr. will be shouldered with the responsibility of carrying the offense.

KPJ underlined just how much talent he’s had stored away in Thursday’s encounter. His offense contributed to more than 50% of his team’s tally of a whopping 143 points. The kind of numbers Harden used to put up during his time with the Rockets. If the game against the Bucks is anything to go by, Houston may have already found their James Harden replacement.
