LaMelo Ball was one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft Class. He was a lively but incompetent scorer. Although his playmaking skills were incredible, the turnover numbers were disturbing.
Moreover, many scouts thought his shot might have to be recreated. Besides, his absence of defensive intensity would be a problem at the NBA.
However, LaMelo Ball has been sensationally early in his rookie season. He also caught the attention of Steph Curry.
Curry conveyed to the reporters, “He is playing amazing. There was a lot of talk about what he could show in his rookie year. He is surprising a lot of people.”
Through 28 games, LaMelo Ball is averaging 14.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. He was shooting 43.7% from the field and 35.4% from the 3-point range.
In comparison to the starting lineup, the Hornets are getting better. The score now is 20.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in eight games as a starter.
Anthony tweets, “Warriors face Charlotte on Saturday. Steph Curry asked about LaMelo Ball in advance: “He’s playing amazing. There was a lot of talk about what he could show his rookie year. He’s surprising a lot of people.”
LaMelo Ball and Houston Rockets
A lot has changed with the Hornets and Golden State Warriors since the last meeting. Subsequently, the Golden State team won by 11 points. The meeting featured Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and DeMarcus Cousins. Out of all, Saturday’s project starting lineup will have only two players: Curry and Green.
The previous week, LaMelo Ball torn the Houston Rockets for 24 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds while making seven 3-pointers. Furthermore, in lighting up the Rockets, Ball became the third rookie to make seven 3-pointers in a game, joining Curry and Jason Kidd.
LaMelo Ball also joined LeBron James and Luka Doncic as the only players 19 or younger to record multiple games of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. However, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score 20 points, dish out 10 assists, and hit five 3-pointers.
Perhaps the major count to the Hornets roster in that span has been LaMelo Ball. He is the recent frontrunner for Rookie of the Year and one of the most famous players in the league.
Moreover, this week Curry spoke about the Ball and the Hornets ahead of Saturday’s game.
Another interesting storyline ahead of the game will be Ball taking on one of the two teams that passed on him in the draft.
The Warriors and Ball had plenty of links in the pre-draft process, including LaVar being outspoken about not wanting Golden State to draft him. However, La Melo is distancing himself from his father as a result.
Many believed LaMelo Ball had the talent to be a star, but the fact of being this good at such an early stage is surprising.
