“He’s Like Five Foot Five Commentator ”Ben Simmons Jabs Back at the Wizard’s Announcer for Calling Him Overrated

Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons is arguably one of the most defensively sound players in the entire league. His inclusion in the Philadelphia 76ers has changed the team’s fortune for the better. Apart from exceptional defense, Simmons also facilitates assisting his teammates with immaculate passes.

Simmons responded to the comments made by Washington Wizards commentator Justin Kutcher. He said, “I can’t give it too much attention. He’s just a 5’5″ commentator from the Wizards.”

The 24-year-old was in quarantine with fellow teammate Joel Embiid since the All-Star weekend. However, Joel Embiid was allowed to play in the game against the Wizards. Tobias Harris was the standout performer for the team, scoring 23 points for his side.

Ben Simmons hits back at Justin Kutcher

On 12th March, Justin Kutcher commented during the game that Simmons is the most “overrated” player in the league. He said, “I’ve said it before and I know I’ll take flak for it. … I think Ben Simmons is one of if not the most overrated players in the NBA. He’s gotten so much love and attention that people aren’t paying attention to what Tobias Harris is actually doing on the floor.”

As soon as this statement was on the air, the backlash started pouring in from all directions on Kutcher. TV analyst Kendrick Perkins condemned the commentator for making such a statement. Players Jusuf Nurkic and Robert Covington also expressed their displeasure.

“Yep, I said that Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated players in the NBA. And I stand by it,” Kutcher said, justifying his statements “I didn’t say he was BAD, just not as good as everyone makes him out to be. GREAT defender, potential DPOY.  However, I think he’s made All-League/All-Star Teams based on hype. And..goodnight.”

Ben Simmons’ offensive frailties are well-documented. However, the Australian has shown this season that he has been working on the attacking side of his game. The 2017 rookie-of-the-year is averaging 16 points per game this season. In fact, Simmons has increased his 3-point percentage to 28.6% while his career average is at 12.9%.

The Philadelphia 76ers are at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They are well in contention for the playoffs. Some critics rate them as the championship favorite this season. With MVP candidate Joel Embiid and young stalwarts like Ben Simmons on their roster, the 76ers will feel pretty confident about their championship hopes.
