Marc Gasol’s performance against Sacramento Kings leads Frank Vogel to think Gasol is an important Lakers player. The 36-year-old dominated Kings tonight with five points. However, his role became uncertain after LA Lakers signed Andre Drummond.

As soon as the Los Angeles Lakers signed Andre Drummond on March 29, Gasol’s future became unsure as per rumors. The rumors appeared that the Lakers might buy out Gasol’s contract. However, Frank Vogel denied any rumor, and he needs all three of his centers, including Gasol, Drummond, and Montrezl Harrell.

Vogel is pretty sure that Gasol will bring the championship for the Lakers this year. “I think people need to understand how important Marc Gasol is … he’s going to help us win a championship this year,” Vogel conveyed in a post-game conference.

Furthermore, the head coach indicated that Marc Gasol is a high potential player, and his role for the Lakers is very important. “Marc is one of our most important players. He dominated the game tonight with 5 points.”

Marc Gasol comments on Andre Drummond’s arrival

Drummond was named in the starting roster almost immediately after he arrived at the Lakers. As a result. Gasol became sidelined. But Drummond’s injury brought Marc back in as the starter.

Nevertheless, the 36-year-old center is unsure how often he will be called after Drummond returns again. “I think there’s an ‘if’ — ‘if’ they need you. And it’s a big ‘if,'” Drummond commented over Vogel’s speech on his importance in the team.

Marc Gasol did not comment about the rumor, but he thinks he is not in the Lakers’ plan A. “You’re not Plan A right now. You’re Plan C, D. … You have to accept it because that’s your job. And that’s what you sign up to do. It’s never easy to accept that,” Marc Gasol revealed.

Gasol signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in November 2020. So far, he played 40 games with the defending champion and scored 4.8 on an average, which is relatively low compared to his past seasons. So, fans would not be surprised if Gasol stays on the bench for a long time or the Lakers buyout him.
