In a top-of-the-table clash, the Phoenix Suns edged the Utah Jazz for a win by the skin of their teeth. Both the teams have played sensationally well all throughout the season. However, when it came to clutch situations, the experience and tenacity of Devin Booker and Chris Paul trumped over the Jazz.
Devin Booker on his own was a force to reckon with in this game. Right from the first quarter, he was picking the Jazz defense apart with nimble movements and sublime ball-handling. However, his shots were not falling up until the third quarter, where his team needed him the most.
In a post-game analysis, TV analyst Tim Legler talked about the combination of Booker and CP3. He also explained how the Suns operate when both these players are in prime form. He said, “The Suns’ backcourt took over the game in overtime. That is what it came down to. Devin Booker was sensational. He started overtime by getting a layup right off the jump ball.”
He continued, “Booker got to his spots when he needed to get to them. It was another big scoring night for him. However, for me, what mattered most is when he did it. That was the most impressive of all.”
Devin Booker, Chris Paul carry the Suns past the Utah Jazz
It was a match where both the teams were not willing to give anything away. Based on recent form alone, the Phoenix Suns deserved to win this game. Booker was the pick of the players for them. The 24-year-old finished with 35 points to his name. He also racked up 4 rebounds and three assists during the course of the game.
Apart from him, Chris Paul showed his class and temperament by playing an excellent second fiddle. He ended up with 29 points and 9 assists in this match. Furthermore, Paul’s stepback threes were invaluable when both the teams went into overtime.
The Phoenix Suns are second in the Western Conference standings. At the moment, they are well in contention for the playoff spots. Moreover, they have a seven-game winning streak and they will look forward to extending it. If the Suns can keep this form up till the end of the season, they can become the championship contenders that no one saw coming.
