Cole Anthony ‘Has a Chance to Be a Terrific Defender’ Admits Orlando Magic Coach Steve Clifford

Cole Anthony was the first-round draft pick last year out of North Carolina

Orlando Magic coach, Steve Clifford, was full of praises for rookie Cole Anthony. The point guard has looked good in his return from a broken rib injury suffered back in February. As the playoffs are out of reach, the Magic have decided to chart a fresh path. With the promise to get the top pick in the upcoming draft, the front office has decided to go through a rebuilding phase.

The franchise has to make the best out of its current situation. Developing their young players is their new target for the remainder of the season. Cole Anthony was their first-round draft pick last year, and the rookie has had a rough start so far.

Magic coach Steve Clifford believes the 20-year-old can be a factor on both ends of the floor. When asked about Anthony, the coach conveyed ” I thought the other night was his best game, we have streamlined three or four options for him to be on the attack”.

Clifford continued, “It is the balance on when to attack, when to move the ball, when to be an organizer or a facilitator and as always play on both ends of the floor. I think he has a chance to be a terrific defender”.

Currently sitting at 14th in the Eastern Conference, playoffs is a far-fetched dream now. With several young players within their ranks, the Magic apparently has a young core they can build and grow with. Cole Anthony has averaged 12.3 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists after his return from injury. He has blown no one away with his statistics in his rookie year, but the potential is there for the taking.

With veteran players taking the exit door and moving to playoff contenders, coach Steve Clifford has a big responsibility in his hands and Magic will be hoping that Cole Anthony can lead the way. There is always room to grow for a rookie guard and there is no exception for Anthony.
