Lionel Messi commented on the possibility of Carles Puyol returning to Barcelona with his new role as Technical Secretary. According to him, the former Blaugrana captain was rumored to be the main candidate to occupy that role.
Josep Maria Bartomeu recently confirmed previous rumors claiming Puyol could return to the club in a new position. The former defender is not only considered for that role because of his history with the club.

After his retirement, Puyol worked as a football agent representing soccer players such as Marc Bartra, Bojan Krkic, Carles Alena, Eric Garcia, and Adria Bernabe, who then relinquished the role of becoming ambassadors for LaLiga and UEFA.
As such, the Barca board believes that Puyol knows the mechanics of the world of football and can perfectly represent the interests of the club. But Messi said that he did not know whether Puyol wanted to fulfill that role.
“I don’t know if he wants that or what his ideas are, but he follows that route. Puyol would be ideal for the position. I don’t know if that’s something he wants to do because I don’t speak for him,” Messi was quoted as saying by Tribuna on Friday. (9/13/2019).

“But his image, how he is a player, what he means for this club, it will be a very good choice,” added Messi.
