Mattia Binotto Reveals ‘Engine’ and ‘Aerodynamics’ Better After Bahrain Test

Ferrari 2021 SF21

It’s always hard to not make judgements on appearance alone. Two weeks ahead of the opening race in Bahrain, Mattia Binotto’s led Ferrari seems to be in a good shape. Formula One needs a strong and competitive Ferrari, and their SF21 might help the team ending the title drought.

After using two tokens and improving the power unit along with few developments in the car’s rear, Team Principal Mattia Binotto is quite certain now that aero drag along the straight run won’t be an issue.

“The car is going quite well compared to our expectations. This does not mean we are fast, but that we are developing the car as we should.” said Mattia Binotto after three days of testing and analysis.

“Last year here in Bahrain we didn’t make the cut in Q3. I think today the speed on the straights is not a problem anymore, since both the engine and the aerodynamics are better.”

Mattia Binotto claims optimism is key

“Then about where we are compared to the other teams, it’s [too] early to say. We will understand that in the next 15 days, or maybe even later, since the Bahrain track does not represent the whole Championship.”

Though Ferrari’s past few seasons have been quite frustrating, yet no one can question their prowess at designing a top-drawer Formula One machine. After Mattia Binotto’s ascension to his current role, the team now looks younger energized, and sharp.

“At the beginning of the season it’s right to be always optimistic, to keep the enthusiasm all over the season,” said Binotto.

“It will be a very complicated year, full of challenges. We have the 2022 car to design, we have to deal with the budget cap. We have a new driver.”

“Carlos [Sainz] settled in very well with the team, with the engineers, with Charles [Leclerc] and with the car. So we have many challenges to face. The optimism must be present in this moment.”

“Last year we started with big issues in Barcelona, this is true. Yes, I think I can say last year was a much more complicated season.”

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz managed to secure third fastest position during testing.

Although we have a long way to go, and positive signs from the race reveal how productive the winters for Ferrari must have been. Yet nobody is certain, that Ferrari’s performance and promises are likely to dominate this season’s campaign.
