Defending champion Manchester City continues to try to chase Liverpool at the top of the standings. For that, Wolverhampton must be defeated.
Rank 2 Manchester City will host 13th Wolverhampton at Etihad Stadium in Week 8 of the Premier League 2019/20, Sunday (6/10/2019). The city should not slip if they don’t want their five-point gap with Liverpool to widen.
Wolverhampton is not an easy opponent. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions. In the middle of last week, Willy Boly’s late goal brought them a 1-0 win over hosts Besiktas in the Europa League.
Wolverhampton is in a pretty neat form. However, the City is more impressive.
City has always won in their last five matches in all competitions, since the embarrassment of Norwich City. Last week, City won 3-1 over host Everton in the Premier League with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling. Josep Guardiola’s men joined him in the 2-0 victory at home to Dinamo Zagreb in the midweek Champions League, through goals from Phil Foden and Sterling.
Sterling is on fire, always contributing goals and/or assists (3 goals, 2 assists) in his last three appearances for City in all competitions.
Serve Wolverhampton, City might not be strengthened by the assist machine Kevin De Bruyne, whose condition is doubtful. De Bruyne was absent against Dinamo Zagreb, and Guardiola was not likely to take the risk of dropping him at the weekend.
However, City still has Sterling, Aguero, and Mahrez in the attack, as well as David Silva, Rodri and Bernardo Silva in the middle row. In other words, the chances of winning The Citizens remain wide open.
