Luke Rockhold still does not consider retiring but admits to being happy without fighting

Former UFC and Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold was in the MMA elite for years. Currently, he is in a complicated situation in his career.

With a record of 3-1 in his last four fights, in addition to a frustrating debut in semi-complete matches, the American revealed that he is not thinking of fighting again at the moment.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, he talked about his future in MMA.

“For now, I am happy not to fight. It makes me happy to have my focus on other things,” said the fighter.

Luke has been seen in catalogs of major fashion brands, which seems to favor the athlete over wanting to exchange fists in the octagon. In relation to MMA. Rockhold explained that his professional career is exhausting, that he lost the hunger he had when he entered the sport.

“Fighting demands a lot from people. I was there. I was at the top of the sport. I don’t have the same passion for that, right now. I am encouraged to take other directions of my life,” said the former champion.

Rockhold took advantage of sending a message to his fans, who may be disappointed about the decision to get away from MMA. Despite that, I don’t rule out the possibility of going up to the octagon in the future.

“I know I have a lot of fans. I apologize for not fighting, but you never know. Maybe one day I’ll come back, but it’s not what I want now, ”he said.

According to the American, the main reason is the fact of making more money doing another function that fighting was essential for the decision. For the fighter, climbing into the octagon makes no sense, when considering the financial side.

“I can earn more money outside the octagon, then why not? Not having to deal with UFC policies when fighting is great. That makes me happy, ” Luke concluded.

With 35 years, Rockhold reached the top of the MMA. Between 2011 and 2012, he was the average Strikeforce champion until he migrated to the UFC in 2013.

I only need two years to win the UFC belt, winning the belt after beating Chris Weidman in UFC 194. The Californian lost the belt six months later, in a fight with Michael Bisping, in UFC 199, when he was knocked out in the first round.

In 2018, Luke tried to recover the belt, in a fight with Yoel Romero for the interim belt. Where he was again knocked out by the Cuban, who did not win the belt for not giving weight.

This year, Rockhold opted to go up to semi-complete but succumbed to the physical strength of Jan Blachowicz. The American was knocked out by the Polish in the second round.
