The Los Angeles Lakers won 119-112 in a close victory against Oklahoma City Thunder. The young OKC team pushed the Lakers, playing without Anthony Davis, to overtime. The previous match of the Lakers which was against the Detroit Pistons also went to double overtime.
When speaking about the win against Thunder, LeBron James said, “Thunder has a lot of energy and a whole lot of young players. They have no quit in them and are very well-coached. It needed an overtime quarter for us to win this game. We thought that we had done enough to end the game in regulation but they were able to close the gap.”
LeBron James against the Thunder:
Even though Oklahoma City Thunder tried their hardest when it came to stopping LeBron, he was simply too good for them. He managed to secure his 97th career triple-double in this match. Scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists throughout the game. This was his 24th triple-double for the LA Lakers. This reiterates how important LeBron is for them.
Apart from LeBron, Wesley Matthews also had a good game. He scored 16 points and had 3 rebounds to his name. Apart from that, coach Frank Vogel said that he performed exceptionally well in defense. Matthews came into the team as the replacement of Anthony Davis who is nursing an Achilles Tendinosis injury. His superb performance also acts as an assurance for Vogel when he wants to rest his star players and rotate the squad.
Lakers on the way to playoffs:
When speaking about the game against Detroit Pistons, LeBron James famously said “My heart isn’t sustainable for two overtimes at this point in my career...”. And after today’s game, with another overtime win, LeBron said “We have that championship DNA, it’s good for us to be tested.“.
With this win, the Los Angeles Lakers have a five-game winning streak on their hands which they would like to extend to as many games as possible. They sit comfortably in 2nd place behind Utah Jazz on the Western Conference table. They are very much on their way to the playoffs. Championship-winning sides have an uncanny ability to scrape out wins even while staring in the face of defeat. That is exactly what the Lakers seem to be doing at the moment.
