Khabib Nurmagomedov rules out revenge with McGregor, wants to face Tony Ferguson in Russia

Khabib Nurmagomedov rules out revenge with McGregor, wants to face Tony Ferguson in Russia

The last time Khabib Nurmagomedov saw action was at UFC 242 when he finished former UFC interim champion, Dustin Poirier, to become the undisputed lightweight champion.

The current monarch of the division has stated that he expects his next belt defense to happen in Russia.

“It could be in March or April,” he said at the Synergy Forum. “I say it clearly: I want to fight in a big arena, and the only covered arena in Russia is the Gazprom Arena. So I want to fight there.”

There have already been two UFC events in Russia and the third will be next month.

If Nurmagomedov gets his desire to fight in Russia, he would like to face the former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson.

“From my point of view, McGregor is part of the past,” he said. “I have nothing to prove. He has something to prove. We know that. There are many businessmen here and I think most will tell me to fight him because he will bring money. First I would fight with all the challenges and I could fight with him to benefit my agricultural projects. I have to say that Tony Ferguson deserves it more. You have to give him credit. He’s on a run of 12 consecutive wins and deserves it more than Conor. McGregor has to go back and hit old people. He’s a professional fighter. He should come back, win his place and get in line.”

The fight between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has already been scheduled several times, but various injuries and health problems caused the fight not to take place.
