Justin Gaethje is awaiting to pounce on the right opportunity as the upper administration of the UFC lightweight sort their issues. Ali Abdelaziz, his manager stated that the negotiations are still hopeful and they haven’t hit a wall.
Ali said, “I don’t think it’s business (issues) right now. I think I just have to get the right fight. I see a lot of people calling him out. You can’t just be away from the lightweight division for six years and come back and try to fight the No. 2 guy. You have to earn it.”
In spite of making Justin Gaethje VS Michael Chandler a reality for UFC 262, UFC set Michael up with Charles Oliveria. Despite this, Ali believes that Gaethje is the best active lightweight at the moment.
Abdelaziz furthers clarified that he understands why UFC changed the lineup. He said, “We found out Chandler (was) fighting Oliveira, and I get it. The UFC wants a champion who never lost to Khabib. If a guy who lost to Khabib becomes the champion, you need more time to make people forget about Khabib, right? They made the move, and I get it.”
