Josh Barnett is now part of Bellator MMA. Former heavyweight champion of UFC expected to debut in brief.
Barnett wants to end his three-year absence at the Bellator and Rizin special event, but for now, nothing is official.
The old school veteran was in Dublin last weekend at Bellator 227 where he spoke with the press. During the conversation, Barnett was asked about a full weight tournament in Bellator.
“The Warmaster,” said he is in favor of the tournament, but he would like it to be only one night.
“Bellator has insurance money. I would be there, ” Barnett replied.
“But if we are doing a tournament that is one night. We are very old. If it lasts for more than a year, we could become geriatric, senile, forget where we need to be, maybe social security intervenes, so now we don’t want to fight anymore, we are making use of government money, I don’t know. But, if we are going to do a tournament, we have to do it in one night. ”
Barnett went on to say he wants to do it at the old school, asking for the first 10-minute round, similar to what was done at Pride FC.
“Let’s do it as real men used to do it. Stop with that me. The commissions out there trust the men who leave. We can go to three fights, three rounds of five minutes, we’re fine. Hell, I don’t think five minutes is enough. We need the first round of 10 minutes, at least,” he concluded.
