Jordan Pickford fell to an injury when Everton faced Burnley on March 13th, 2021. After Jordan’s exit, the Toffees replaced him with Joao Virginia in the 43rd minute. The latter was more adept at keeping the Clarets at bay than his English team-mate. In conclusion, Everton conceded two goals within twenty-four minutes of their eventual loss to Burnley by two goals to one. Pickford was disappointing for the entirety of his time at Turf Moor.

Following the game, Carlo Ancelotti displayed his disappointment for the Englishman’s lackluster performance. He also talked about the injury sustained by Jordan Pickford in the game. In an interview on March 14th, 2021, he said, “The injury to Jordan Pickford is not a big problem. I cannot say more on that issue because I do not think the injury is that serious. Hopefully, he will recover soon.

Pickford’s capabilities and errors in the EPL

Consequently, Pickford’s performance for Everton this season was dismal. In the twenty-three games he has appeared in, Jordan rec0rded six clean sheets with eight losses.
Jordan Pickford is a quality player, as he recorded forty-three clean sheets in a hundred and sixty-eight appearances overall in the Premier League. Pickford joined the Merseyside Blues on June 15th, 2017, following an explosive season with Sunderland in the EPL. The performance he exhibited on the field won him a call-up to the England squad on August 24th, 2017.

Unfortunately, the Washington native has not proved himself in the eyes of his Italian manager this season. Before the game at Burnley, Pickford committed a terrible tackle on Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk on February 20th, 2021. The youngster has proved himself to be error-prone this season but has shown his exemplary skills in a few games.

Ancelotti, however, can not take a chance with the Englishman’s inconsistency in the league.

Pickford needs a challenge for the goal-keeper position at Everton

The Evertonian goal-keeper needs a challenge at Goodison Park to get over his issues in the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti wants to address the situation by signing a new goal-keeper to provide that challenge to the twenty-seven-year-old shot-stopper.

For this reason, a few options were considered by the Italian manager in the last Premier League season. The list consisted of the names, Thomas Strakosha (Lazio), Timo Horn (FC Koln, Lukasz Fabianski (West Ham) and Gianluigi Donnaruma (AC Milan).

Of the options stated and the nationality of the Everton manager taken into consideration, the best choice would be Donnaruma. The twenty-two-year-old Italian would offer Everton and Jordan Pickford the opportunity to advance in the Premier League and become European champions in the future.

Therefore, Jordan should hope for a Donnaruma or another player with similar abilities to challenge his role and awaken him from the nightmare he is facing with the Merseyside club.
