Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has emerged as Manchester City’s top transfer priority, with the Cityzens considering launching a bid next summer.
According to reports, Pep Guardiola has been impressed by the midfielder’s performance and is keen to add him to his squad at the Etihad Stadium.
Jack Grealish came through the ranks at the Aston Villa academy and rose to become club captain, playing a key role as the side secured promotion from the Championship in 2019.
In the last two seasons, he has seen his stock rise exponentially and is now widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old starred with eight goals and six assists and scored the crucial goal that kept Aston Villa in the Premier League on the final day of the 2019-20 season.
His performance saw him linked with a move away from Villa Park, with Manchester United touted as his next destination, although he ultimately signed a new five-year extension that would see him remain at Aston Villa for the foreseeable future.
Given his performance, it was only a matter of time before an England call-up came and Gareth Southgate handed Jack Grealish his international debut in September 2020 and the former Notts County man has fully settled in with the Three Lions.
This season, the England midfielder has continued from where he left off and has been one of the standout performers as Aston Villa continue to defy expectations with their ascent up the table.
He has weighed in with four goals and five assists to help the Villains sit 6th on the table and his standout performance came in the 7-2 demolition of champions Liverpool where he scored two goals and provided three assists to complete one of the most shocking results in Premier League history.
It now appears that Manchester City have seen enough to make a move for the Villa star and they could be willing to meet the club’s valuation of £70m.
The Cityzens have had a stuttering start to the campaign, faltering massively as they seek to dethrone Liverpool at the summit of the table.
So far, Guardiola’s side have won just three of their opening seven matches to sit 10th on the table, marking the Catalan’s worst start to a campaign in his managerial career.
City have also been uncharacteristically blunt in attack and have gone five consecutive Premier League games without scoring more than a goal for the first time in 12 years.
Injuries have no doubt played their part, although it could be time to introduce fresh faces to the club and Jack Grealish could be one of the stars to help usher the club into the next era.
