The spread of the Coronavirus has affected the start of the MotoGP 2020. To reduce the disruption due to the virus, this year’s MotoGP race has the potential to be held closed.

MotoGP 2020 has canceled the main class race in the Qatar opening series, which should start today (6/3/2020). Because Qatar issued a quarantine policy for visitors who come from Italy.

After Qatar, the Thai MotoGP which was designated as the second series must be postponed to the end of the year. Following the Thailand Government’s ban on public events that attracted large numbers of masses.

As a result, MotoGP 2020 will begin in the third series in Austin, Texas which is scheduled for early April. Even so, there is no guarantee that the MotoGP title will be free from COVID-19 disruptions for the remainder of the season.

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta admitted it was considering holding a race without spectators. ‘Everything is possible,’ he said. ‘The most important thing for us is to have a solution for everything. We always say that Dorna, with all agreements with FIM and IRTA, is a joint process and this is our duty.’

‘The most important thing is – more important than the economic side – is to hold a race and I assure you with the collaboration of all the people at IRTA, all Moto2 and Moto3 managers, we will try to hold as many races as possible,’ Ezpeleta continued by Autosport.

‘Now I’m not going to say I’m optimistic or not, but the only thing I can promise you is that we will work hard to make sure the rest of the race is held – the remaining 19 races,’ he said.
