History carved by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga when he became the first four-time champion Moselle Open in Metz, France. Tsonga won his fourth title after conquering Algeria Bedene through a battle of two sets 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3.
The Frenchman won after playing for two hours and 47 minutes. The 34-year-old Tsonga set a 4-1 win record in the final of the ATP 250 Tournament.
Tsonga joins as the ninth French player to win the tournament in the last 11 editions. Since Gael Monfils won the 2009 edition, David Goffin (2014) and Peter Gojowczyk (2017) have been non-French tennis players who lifted the trophy at Metz.
“Mentally, I’m very strong. I served very well as I expected, ” said Tsonga. ” Overall the match is not easy. Algeria played well and it was a long game. I’m very happy to be champions again here, ” he said.
