Seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton has recently come across a warning by his team boss. The Brit was warned by his Mercedes AMG team boss about his complacency to beat Michael Schumacher. Factually Michael Schumacher, the retired F1 legend had won seven world champion titles. However, Lewis equaled his tally with the Ferrari legend last year when he won the last season’s F1 Championship.
Toto warns Lewis
The team boss Toto Wolff said regarding Lewis’s eight Championship hunt, “If you start to spend too much time thinking about an eighth title you forget that in between there are 20 or so races that you need to finish in the best possible outcome.”
Toto Wolff also stated, “In that respect, of course, the eighth title is out there, but it’s not going to be something that’s going to play on his mind a lot, nor does it play on our mind a lot because we need to concentrate on the job.”
Lewis on his eighth title
Lewis signed a one year contract extension with the German automobile giants. However, Hamilton made the title push very clear while signing the contract, in order to clear past Michael Schumacher, “The eighth world title would be a huge thing,” the seven-time champion told La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Sportweek magazine.
He also conveyed, “I can’t even fathom the number, but that’s what I’m focusing all my efforts on. I expect a tough year, I can assure you. Red Bull showed that they are very strong in 2020.”
It was last season and Mercedes AMG’s Lewis Hamilton picked up his seventh world champion title. He led Valtteri Bottas, his fellow Mercedes AMG driver by 124 points. This is Hamilton’s 15th season as an F1 driver and ninth for Mercedes AMG. Clinching one more title means the Brit would take over the German in overall Championship tally.
Apart from having seven world champion titles, Lewis also has 95 pole wins and 98 podium finishes. The Brit will also look forward to taking that to a century. The season for 2021 F1 starts at Bahrain on March 28.
