Gennadiy Golovkin has been warned not to underestimate underdog Sergiy Derevyanchenko ahead of the dueling race for the vacant IBF Middle-Class championship belt. The warning was raised to GGG if you want to become a world champion again in the fight at Madison Square Garden, New York, United States, Saturday (5/10) this week.
However, Golovkin is not the name if the guts immediately frowned at the warning. Golovkin is not affected by his opponent’s warning which is said to be a hidden power in the Middle Class. GGG remains optimistic that it can reduce the ambitions of his opponents who want to surprise him in the ring later. “If you like actual battles, don’t miss this,” Golovkin said.
Derevyanchenko can’t wait to face a superior GGG in the Middle-class boxing world. “Saturday night, I’m ready to rock and roll,” Derevyanchenko said.
Compared to GGG, Derevyanchenko’s career started with amateurs. Derevyanchenko was teammate Vasiliy Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk when competing in the Olympics. In a pro career, the boxer nicknamed The Technician lost once in 14 battles. The only defeat suffered by Derevyanchenko from Danny Jacobs. “We have great strength, and it will be very difficult for (Golovkin) to overcome,” said Andre Rozier, coach of Derevyanchenko.
On the other hand, GGG also suffered one defeat from 42 battles. The only defeat suffered by GGG when it was controversially defeated by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on May 15, 2018. The 37-year boxer joined promoter Eddie Hearn to realize his ambition to become a world champion again. “This will be a competitive match, a fight that difficult, ” said Johnathon Banks, Golovkin’s coach.
