Gareth Southgate urges his team to pull up their socks before the key clash against Poland

Gareth Southgate calls his men to come up with better and much improved performance against Poland on Wednesday

Gareth Southgate’s man will face their toughest challenge yet in World Cup Qualifying Group I when England will host Poland at Wembley Stadium this Wednesday. The polish team, on the other side, will probably go on the field without their star player Robert Lewandowski, who is currently reeling with a knee injury.

Still, as per English coach Gareth Southgate, the team doesn’t want to take it easy against their mighty rivals. Moreover, he wants his players to pull up their socks against a team that ranks 42 places higher than Albania.

While being asked about the probable formation against the Polish team on Wednesday, The English manager said, “There are decisions around individuals, decisions around what’s best for the game, but most of that thinking we will keep to ourselves.”

We will have a look at Poland and see what their game [against Andorra] was like today. We don’t need to help opponents. We’ll keep that decision-making in-house. We know we have the depth to come in if we need freshening up. We will see how everybody reports in the morning.”, he further added.

We must mention here that both teams eased past their opponents during the weekend. While the Three Lions claimed a convincing 2-0 win against  Albania,  Poland cruised to a 3-0 victory over Andorra.

Discussing their recent form, the English team will probably go with an upper hand with four wins and just one loss in their last six clashes. Poland, on the other side, has claimed three wins while playing a similar number of matches.

Poland’s only concern comes with the fitness issues of their star forward Robert Lewandowski. As far as the Three Lions are concerned, they will be looking to continue with the momentum grabbed over the past few matches.

Nonetheless, Poland is way above any team England have faced over the past few weeks. Hence, a change in formation from Southgate could there be on the cards during this highly anticipated battle.

Moreover, England captain and striker Harry Kane, along with other key players, is in some red hot form. So, he will be keen to take his team home with yet another win on their home soil.

The biggest turnaround to this match may come over with the news related to Robert Lewandowski’s fitness. According to recent reports, the Polish star striker is set to miss this top of the table encounter due to the knee injury sustained over the weekend’s clash against Andorra.

As confirmed by Poland’s coach, Robert felt some pain in his knee and undergoing a check regarding his fitness currently. Later on Monday, the Polish football association came with a statement confirming the unavailability of Lewandowski for Wednesday’s clash.

Regardless of Robert’s absence from the match, Poland will surely bring over some tough questions to answer for the English team.
