“I’m really excited to continue my relationship with Haas”- Fittipaldi rejoices being selected for second consecutive season in 2021 Bahrain test

Pietro Fittipaldi will continue as the test and reserve driver for Hass F1 Team in 2021.

Pietro Fittipaldi will continue as the test and reserve driver for the Haas F1 Team for 2021.

The 24-year-old is the grandson of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. The young driver was the official test and reserve for the team in the last season. He made his debut when the regular driver Romain Grosjean was out because of injury.

What Haas boss Steiner got to say about Fittipaldi?

Fittipaldi performed well in the last two races in Abu Dhabi. Therefore, the American team extended the contract with the driver. Team Principal Guenther Steiner said, “We’re all delighted to continue our relationship with Pietro Fittipaldi”

The Brazilian’s performance in last season impressed Steiner. He mentioned being a reserve is a hard task as you get less time to prepare. He also mentioned the young Brazilian did not even test the car VF-20 last year. Yet, Fittipaldi remained calm during such a moment and showed his adaptability to the situation.

Steiner said, “The role of test and reserve driver means you might be called up to drive at very short notice and that turned out to be the case for Pietro in Bahrain at the end of 2020.

Despite the demands of driving with little time to prepare, he undoubtedly did a solid job for us–not least as he hadn’t even tested the VF-20. He didn’t get caught up in the moment, he proved patient and ultimately, he did what he was asked to do–he brought the car home in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.”

Steiner also added, “That first-hand race experience will only serve to add value in terms of what he brings to the team in his role this season. We look forward to working with Pietro and having him with us again throughout the year.”

What does Pietro Fittipaldi think about this?

Despite his performance, he will continue as a test and reserve driver for the team. Instead, rookie drivers like Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher will be the regulars for Haas F1 in 2021.

However, the Brazilian does not seem unhappy with this decision. Instead, he seems delighted to be back with his team. The young driver is looking forward to work with them in the 2021 season.

Fittipaldi said, “I’m grateful to Gene and Guenther for the opportunity once again. I’ve been working with the engineers now for a couple of years, and I really feel like it’s a big family at Haas.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to be able to continue working with the team. With the two races I ran last year, it just helped me gain even more experience, and I’m sure that’s going to help me be able to contribute more to the team as a result.”

He added, “I’m really looking forward to the new season and I’m just really excited to be continuing my relationship with Haas and being with them again in Bahrain in March.”

Will we see Pietro Fittipaldi on the grid in 2021?

We can expect the rookie drivers to perform well this season. Both the drivers are well known for their brilliant driving in Formula 2. However, we can expect to see Fittipaldi driving again on the grid because of some emergency. It will be a treat to see his calm driving and adaptability to the situation.
