Renan Barao debuted at UFC in 2011. After winning three straight wins, he beats Urijah Faber and interim champion was crowned Roosters pesos. After two successful defenses, the Brazilian inherited the linear belt after injuries of former champion Dominick Cruz.
The Brazilian retained his first defense when he defeated Urijah Faber by TKO in the rematch between the two at UFC 169.
In the next fight, he was knocked out by TJ Dillashaw in UFC 173, losing an undefeated 33 fights.
After beating Mitch Gagnon, Barao had a rematch with Dillashaw, but again he was knocked out, living a terrible phase that ended with a victory in his last eight fights.
