Chelsea canceled the pre-match press conference that is usually done by Coach Frank Lampard on Friday (3/13/2020) after Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for Covid-19.
The game against Villa will likely be postponed after Chelsea said all their players, the coaching staff, and some staff will isolate themselves. The second leg match of the 2019/202 Champions League against Bayern Munich on Wednesday (3/18/2020) also seems to be postponed.
The Premier League holds an emergency meeting on Friday (3/13/2020) to see the status of upcoming matches and the ongoing season.
Hudson-Odoi became the first Premier League player to be positively affected by the coronavirus, with Chelsea announcing the news Friday (3/13/2020) morning in London. Odoi’s announcement after Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta was also tested positive for the virus.
‘Callum showed symptoms similar to cold on Monday morning and has not been at the training ground since then as a precautionary measure,’ said a Chelsea statement, Friday (3/13/2020).
The 19-year-old player issued a short video statement on social media, where he claimed to have recovered from the virus but carried out isolation as suggested.
‘Hi friends, as you know, I have been suffering from the virus for the past few days, where I have recovered,’ said Hudson-Odoi.
‘I follow health guidelines and isolate myself from everyone for a week. I will see everyone again and return to the field soon.’
