Luxembourg vs Portugal: UEFA Championship Preview, Prediction

Luxembourg is the last contender in the EURO 2020 Qualification which will determine whether or not automatic defending champions Portugal qualify. Victory will guarantee a place in the main round. Losing risky points made Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends overtaken by Serbia.

Luxembourg vs Portugal Preview

Portugal will travel to the Stade Josy Barthel stadium of Luxembourg in their final match in Group B Qualification EURO 2020 on Sunday (11/17/2019).

Last October, Portugal defeated Luxembourg 3-0 in Lisbon with goals from Bernardo Silva, Ronaldo, and Goncalo Guedes.

Portugal just won a big six goals without reply to entertaining Lithuania. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for Portugal. The other three goals were contributed by Pizzi, Goncalo Paciencia, and Bernardo Silva.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg surrendered 2-3 at home to Serbia. Gerson Rodrigues and David Turpel’s goals were not enough to prevent Luxembourg from losing.

Portugal now has 14 points in second place, only one point ahead of Serbia (13 points). Ukraine cannot be evicted from the top spot with 19 points. Luxembourg (4 points) and Lithuania (1 point) have no chance in their group.

Victory over Luxembourg, or the failure of Serbia to beat Ukraine, will ensure Portugal finish second, following Ukraine qualifying automatically for the main round. Failing to win, Serbia can be able to take over their position.

Portugal still has a chance in the playoffs, as the champion of the UEFA Nations League Group A3, if it fails to qualify automatically from the group. However, they certainly prefer to take the easier route. For that reason, Luxembourg must be defeated.
