Football: Willian Will join Barcelona for free

Chelsea forward Willian will reportedly join Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires. Willian has six months left on his contract, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs.

He has spoken of his desire to remain at Chelsea in recent months. But, the lack of progress in contract talks, made him open talks with other clubs.

According to Marca, Willian has met with Barcelona representatives on two occasions and almost agreed to move to Camp Nou. Under the rules, players are allowed to talk and agree to contracts with other clubs once they enter the last six months of an existing agreement with the old club.

Barcelona’s desire to sign Willian has been facilitated by the fact that the winger’s representative agent, Sport Invest, is the same as agent Philippe Coutinho, who joined the Catalan club two years ago.

Barca’s interest in the former Shakhtar Donetsk player has been two years ago when he almost joined the Blaugrana before choosing to remain at Chelsea.

The Spanish club is interested in signing him with a fee in January 2020, but Chelsea will not let him go because of the lack of choice of players at the end of the Premier League.

As a result, they now seem to be losing one of their most experienced players free of charge in July, unless they can somehow convince him to stay.

If left, Willian had left a successful six-and-a-half-year period at Stamford Bridge, which had produced two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup.
