Sergio Perez Optimistic For Red Bull to Achieve Victory at Portuguese GP Ahead in Time

Sergio Perez claims to win a podium at the Portugal GP after his poor performance in Imola.

Red Bull had an outstanding weekend at Imola with Max Verstappen claiming the pole. However, their recent addition Sergio Perez couldn’t make a mark at the Italian circuit.

The 31-year-old joined the Milton Keynes outfit after his long stint at Racing Point F1. The Mexican is one of the best drivers in the world and he has showcased his phenomenal driving at the 2021 season-opener in Bahrain.

Checo even got the front-row grid position for the first time in his career at Imola. However, he failed to keep up the magnificent performance on the race day. Further, the Mexican driver is still fresh with the Red Bull technology and thus committed mistakes at Emilia Romagna GP. As a result, Checo finished P12, whereas he began at P2.

Perez stated he could have done better and even finished next to his dutch teammate. But the Mexican is positive for the upcoming race in Portugal and claim his first podium of the season.

On Red Bull Racing’s Twitter, Perez expressed, “Imola was a missed opportunity as I think we should have finished 1-2 but hopefully we can achieve that this weekend.”

The Upcoming challenge for Sergio Perez

Currently, the Mexican veteran ranks P8 at the 2021 Driver Standings with 10 points. Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen is at P2 with 43 points. Further, both the drivers have contributed 53 points to their team. As a result, the Austrian constructor ranks at P2 behind their rival- Mercedes.

The Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, claimed their new driver has a good pace and will need few more races to adapt to the RB16B. Even Verstappen mentioned that soon he along with Checo will make it harder for Mercedes in upcoming races.
