Sebastian Vettel “still understanding” the way new AMR21 behaves

Sebastian Vettel has signed a deal with Aston Martin for the 2021 season.

Aston Martins are back in Formula One after almost 6 decades. The iconic Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, renamed his controversial Racing Point team to the historic British car name.

Even though the team looks brand new, their driver line up -of German Sebastian Vettel and Canadian Lance Stroll, is quite promising. Aston Martin’s are betting on this mixture of youth and experience for their 2021 season.

Unfortunately, the team’s pre-season-testing weekend didn’t go as intended.

Sebastian Vettel, who was with the Scuderia Ferrari last season, had to retire his car due to technical issues. However, Stroll’s car did show some serious pace on day one and two of the testing.

“It’s going to be a bit of a learning curve in these first few races: for me, it’s a new team – I’m still getting to know everyone, still understanding how the AMR21 wants to be driven, and familiarizing myself with the team,” said the four-time world champion Vettel.

Sebastian last season opener with the Ferrari was not so great as he started 11th on the grid. And with the new aerodynamic changes, Bahrain’s windy track is going to put up a good show this weekend. Though Vettel mostly played around in the garage while the testing was on due to his Aston Martin’s gearbox issue, he seems to be looking forward to the upcoming challenge.

Sebastian Vettel to take Lance Stroll as 1st pilot in Aston Martin

As the team is owned by Lawrence Stroll, there was never a delay in naming Lance Stroll as the number one driver for the team. Sharing his experience so far into the new season with the new team, the Canadian said:

“The arrival of Aston Martin underlines all the potential in this team; it’s a very exciting moment for us all. We’re continuing to develop as an organisation – that means we’ll have more people and more resources to understand the car and how it operates, but we’re still understanding how the team is growing.”

With his new team, Lance was able to secure the 4th fastest position on the qualification chart on the very first day of Bahrain testing. In fact, the youngster improved again by one position and finished 3rd on the second day. Nonetheless, the last day for the Martins wasn’t that fruitful as both their drivers finished last on the chart.

Formula One 2021 season is about to start this Sunday. As the traditional opening Australian GP is postponed until November, the Bahrain track will now be hosting the season opener race. Racing Points were fourth last season, and now after re-branding it to Aston Martin, it is quite rational to bet that the team might finish third in the Constructor Standings.
