Red Bull’s Helmut Marko sets ‘Basic Goal’ For Portuguese GP Race

Race winner Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing celebrates on the podium during the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari on April 18, 2021 in Imola, Italy.

Helmut Marko, the Red Bull Racing advisor put out the trajectory about their approach to the upcoming Portuguese Grand Prix. Like all the other Championship pursuing teams, Red Bull’s approach is no different.

The Heineken Grande Prémio De Portugal is the third race this season and Red Bull as well as their main rival this season Mercedes is all set to lock horns again. The main goal of the Milton Keynes-based team will be winning and collecting points as much as possible and keep the Silver Arrows at bay.

In an interview with RTL, the 78-year-old advisor conveyed, “The basic goal in Portugal should be that we get two drivers on the podium. A win would be nice, that’s the declared goal.”

Podium finish will be the much-needed boost for Red Bull

As stated by the advisor, Red Bull will look forward to keeping Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez on Podium. If not a win but at P2 and P3 would suffice. However, Max needs to win this race to surpass Lewis Hamilton’s points tally.

At the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that took place a few weeks back, both Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen qualified at P2 and P3 in Saturday’s final qualification. However, the race didn’t run according to their expectations. Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix, but Sergio Perez just managed to hold on and finished the race at P11.

As it stands, Red Bull is now with 53 points and at P2. The Milton Keynes-based team trails Mercedes by 7 points who are at 60 points. As for the driver’s standings, Verstappen is at P2 with 43 points, just a point behind Hamilton and Perez is at P8 with just 10 points in his tally. Marko believes they need to pick up the pace and perform well and close the gap and take lead against the reigning champions Mercedes.
