Alpha Tauri drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda didn’t make it to the top 10 in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Yet, given their sublime performances during the Q2 at Bahrain, the team is hopeful of bringing a much-improved result at Imola Grand Prix. While being asked about their lessons from the Bahrain GP, team driver Pierre Gasly mostly talked of the positives.
“Apart from the collision with Daniel, the Bahrain weekend went well, with a lot of positives to take from it. In all the free practice sessions we were front runners and a top-five in Qualifying was one of our best ever results.
Overall, in terms of performance and speed, it is very encouraging for the rest of the season, starting with Imola this weekend. From what we saw in Bahrain, it seems we have a package that will allow us to fight for the big points and there is no reason for that not to be the case for the coming races”, Gasly said.
To repeat on the team’s strategy for Q2 at Bahrain Gasly doesn’t mind risking his AT02 car against Mercedes And Redbull at Imola Grand Prix.
“One example of the team’s confidence was the decision to tackle Q2 at Sakhir on the Medium tyre as apart from us, there was only the two Mercedes and Max Verstappen who did it.
It was a risk, but it proves our belief in our car and our performance level. Now I hope we will be able to do that again at other circuits.”
The French driver also talked about all the restrictions put in place by F1 for the qualifying races. That said, he further urges his team for a much careful and cautious approach in the same regard.

Getting prepared for the Imola Grand Prix may not come as an easy task for Gasly. He hasn’t spent much time on the grid since the Bahrain Grand Prix. Yet, as Imola comes as one of his favorite circuits, he still believes that lack of preparation won’t appear as a hindrance.
The track is quite technical with a lot of fast corners. It further allows you to get into the right rhythm while being busy due to its twisty nature.
As per Gasly, he got his best ever Qualifying with the team on the same track. Yet, the race ended early for him due to a technical issue. Hence, this year is a golden chance for him to make up for last year’s disappointment.
