Max Verstappen Knows F1 Title Flop is “Natural Thing” From the Time He Lost F3 Championship

Max Verstappen will put everything on stake to win his next pole at the Portugal Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen, the Red Bull prodigy, has stated that failure is a part of life. The young Dutchman has expressed about Formula One’s title failure, which can be a “natural thing” and can happen to anybody, but one should not stop dreaming.

Max, one of the title contenders for this year’s Formula One Championship alongside Lewis Hamilton has huge chunks of expectations on his head. Red Bull management and team expects a lot from the 23-year-old Dutchman and feels he can deliver [The F1 Championship] what nobody could ever since Sebastian Vettel left the Milton Keynes-based team.

In an interview with Autosport Magazine, Verstappen conveyed, “It’s very different [being in a title fight]. Of course, that scenario, you don’t need to win every single battle or race. But that’s a natural thing. It doesn’t mean that [because] I didn’t win a title, for example, that I don’t understand that. Because I think I won many titles in go-karting and it’s basically the same – you choose your battles.”

Expectations are high with Max Verstappen

Verstappen further talked about his Formula Three days when he attempted to secure the Championship, “Also, I only had one attempt of winning a title in F3 [in 2014, where he finished third in the European Formula 3 championship won by Alpine driver Esteban Ocon], and of course, yeah, it didn’t happen.”

From being the fastest at the pre-season testing to taking the pole position at the Bahrain Grand Prix final qualification, the expectations for him increased. It was tough for Max to lose the Sakhir Circuit Championship just by seven-tenth of a second to Lewis and settle for P2.

However, losing and winning are a part and parcel of the game, he believes. As the expectations are already high with the Dutchman, he started to live up to it right from the start of the season. It will be interesting to see if he can continue this till the end of the season.
