“It was close” Max Verstappen Remarks After Losing Pole Position to Lewis Hamilton at Sakhir Circuit

It was too little, too late for Max Verstappen as he had to settle for P2 at Sakhir Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver had to see Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton take the pole position from him at Sakhir after starting the race being a firm favorite.

The Red Bull driver was heading at utmost speed in most of the race, only to end up at P2 at the finishing line.

Verstappen has been the fastest on track, since the inception of the Formula One 2021 season. Starting from pre-testing at Sakhir to pre-qualification and the final qualification, the 23-year-old driver outshone everyone.

Red Bull’s two drivers finished at P2 and P5 (Sergio Perez) and this will help them to compete better against the Silver Arrows. The Dutchman in his post-race interview with Formula One conveyed, “It was close in the end but we’ve scored some valuable early points here

With this race, Red Bull Racing has established that they’re taking shoulder to shoulder fight with defending champions, Mercedes AMG F1.

The upset Red Bull driver further asserted, “It’s disappointing not to win, but we have really taken the fight to Mercedes and we have to be happy overall.

With just 20 laps to go, Max was still in the lead with Hamilton following him up close. In the 54th lap, Max got past Lewis to take the P1 but the dutchman runs wide eventually giving the P1 back to Lewis. However, the Dutchman fell to the seven times world champion and was just 0.745 seconds behind him. Lewis finished the race at 1:32:03.897 and Verstappen took 1:32:04.642.

The Red Bull prodigy was the favorite to win the Sakhir Grand Prix and is the title favorite besides Lewis Hamilton for this season. The Formula One fans, Formula One pundits, and experts are of the opinion that Max is the guy who can dethrone Hamilton from the Championship.

This race, as it concluded showed us what Max is capable of, as the Red Bull prodigy chased the defending champion down to the last line.
