George Russell trusts Mercedes word for his “right time” in F1 Future

George Russell Might replace Lewis Hamilton in the upcoming season.

One of the major talking point this season of Formula One will be that of Lewis Hamilton’s future with the Mercedes. It was the Brit’s one year deal which has shifted the attention to the possible contenders for the Mercedes seat in the upcoming season.  All eyes will be on Lewis’s on-track performance. If he thinks of not continuing beyond 2021 and steps out of the cockpit, then the obvious question arises – who might replace him?

Mercedes have a good pool of drivers to look into if needed. And George Russell out of all appears to be a perfect match for the Silver Arrows. He has shown his speed with the team and is well qualified too. Nonetheless, Russell knows it’s not just him, that the title-winning Mercedes can choose to partner up with. Many have in fact speculated that Toto Wolff might approach outstanding young driver Max Verstappen in the future.

“Toto has always given me his word, and he has always given me the opportunity when they believe I deserve it,” addressing the subject of his future with Mercedes, Gorge said. Currently he is driving with the Williams F1 team.

“They’ve told me that I am a part of their future, whenever that may be. It’s when they believe the time is right. I think a lot of people think next year is the natural path, but equally, things change very, very quickly in motorsport, especially in Formula One.”

Last season, the 23-year-old got a call from Mercedes garage and he was able to put up an immaculate performance . He was asked to replace the seven-time world champion in the Sakhir Grand Prix. It happened when Hamilton was tested positive for COVID virus. However, Russell’s Mercedes adventure only lasted for a single GP as Lewis came back for the Abu Dhabi GP.

“I’m not even thinking about it, to be honest. Obviously I had a taste of life at the front of the grid last year, but I’m just focused on the here and now, focused on Bahrain.” Russell said.

George Russell has proved that he is eminently capable of delivering on track. Whether he will replace Valttri Bottas – Lewis Hamilton or not, the future is bright for the Brit in any case.
